Molti anni fa leggere il mensile “la Conchiglia” per noi appassionati di conchiglie era una cosa entusiasmante, specialmente gli articoli dedicati alle cypraeidae. Nel corso degli anni un articolo in particolare era rimasto impresso nella mia mente . Un articolo sulla scoperta di una cypraea hiraseii presa viva nel Mare cinese meridionale, il giornale dedicò per l’evento anche la copertina . In particolare lo scopritore : Igor Bondarev scrisse che la conchiglia era stata trovata viva mentre partecipava ad una campagna di ricerche nel mar della Cina meridionale a bordo di un sommergibile Tinro-2 , Igor ebbe questo fortunato incontro a 150 mt nel suo ambiente naturale , Il mollusco poi fu ospitato in acquario e poi successivamente fotografato, la cypraea abita come scriveva Igor su fondi duri ad una profondità di 150 160 mt dove il fondale forma un gradino sopra e sotto di esso si trova una sabbia ghiaiosa formata da rocce, e lastroni nei quali la cypraea trova riparo. Anni dopo entrai in possesso di una cypraea hiraseii grande e bellissima , rimasi molto sorpreso e stupito nel leggere il cartellino (coordinate e nome Igor) al punto che mi ricordai dell’articolo della conchiglia , tornato a casa confrontai la conchiglia e con grande stupore mi resi conto che era quella in copertina ! Nonostante siano passati molti anni rimane ancora vivo in me quel momento magico . Igor Bondarev ebbi il piacere di incontralo successivamente in una mostra in Belgio e ricordo ancora il suo bellissimo tavolo con tante rarità : Chimaeria Incomparabilis, Lyria Valentina etch..

Many years ago, reading the monthly magazine “La Conchiglia” was exciting for us shell enthusiasts, especially the articles dedicated to cypraeidae. Over the years, one article in particular stuck in my mind. It was an article about the discovery of a cypraea hiraseii caught alive in the South China Sea, and the magazine even dedicated its cover to the event. In particular, the discoverer, Igor Bondarev, wrote that the shell had been found alive while he was participating in a research campaign in the South China Sea aboard a Tinro-2 submarine. Igor had this lucky encounter at a depth of 150 meters in its natural environment. The mollusk was then placed in an aquarium and subsequently photographed. As Igor wrote, the cypraea lives on hard bottoms at a depth of 150-160 meters, where the seabed forms a step above and below which there is gravelly sand formed by rocks and slabs in which the cypraea finds shelter. Years later, I came into possession of a large and beautiful Cypraea hiraseii. I was very surprised and amazed when I read the label (coordinates and Igor’s name), so much so that I remembered the article about the shell. When I got home, I compared the shell and, to my great surprise, realized that it was the one on the cover! Although many years have passed, that magical moment still lives on in me. I had the pleasure of meeting Igor Bondarev later at an exhibition in Belgium and I still remember his beautiful table with many rarities: Chimaeria Incomparabilis, Lyria Valentina etch..
